Surf City Highlights - September 2020

It was all hands and shovels on deck, as this very public blaze took strongly to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, closing in on the Brightwater Homes and the Bolsa Chica Conservancy's Interpretive Center. The HBFD and its neighboring agencies - including water drops from OC FIRE, took this vegetation fire out!

A creative and inventive way to keep the hearts & minds centered on the Clubs that need fundraising especially during a Pandemic! Broken down into individual stations, participating cars stopped along the way to donate gifts, and receive goodies, and lastly took a photo with Boys & Girls of Huntington Valley Chairman, Rob Handy. Later, a zoom after party that featured all the photos taken into a slideshow for all to see!

With their annual large inductee ceremony cancelled because of the Governor's orders, the Board of Director's of the Surfing Walk of Fame instead replaces five Walk of Fame stones and held a brief "revealing" with Mayor Semeta also addressing the mostly masked visitors around. Over 150 stones that cover some of the sport's best of the best are now lined up Main Street!

Since being shut down in March, the Center has had very little interaction with their patients. OH, there's Zoom, of course, and the phone to keep connections alive. But this special drive around the Center in Huntington Beach made the patients and their home/relatives/care-givers so happy. Each of the 75 cars that went around received a care package and well-wishes from the staff who misses their patients, as much as the patients misses them. A Highlight to note was the repeated signs hung around the Center's drive and proudly waved by many of the staff and interns.
