Why a Public Art Master Plan?

1. Develop a unified vision/mission, guiding principles, & goals for public art in Huntington Beach,

2. Identify places & spaces for future public art projects,

3. Create policies & procedures for call for artist projects in parks and public right of way,

4. Establish policies and procedures for approval of public art,

5. Evaluate the current developer-based public art program and approval processes and make recommendations for modifications where needed,

6. Evaluate the type of volunteer-based working group that would be needed to ensure the future success of the plan.

HUNTINGTON BEACH PUBLIC ART

The City of Huntington Beach is proud to present Public Art in Huntington Beach, a collection of over 40 site specific works located at beaches, parks and businesses throughout the City. Art in public space has always been represented in the City, but now with more integrated works, public art can truly transform public spaces, making them places for community pride.

The City has been gathering outdoor public art since the early 1970’s. The community’s outdoor public art collection will continue to enhance the urban landscape and cultural identity of the city. Perfect for a driving or walking tour!

The City of Huntington Beach encourages the inclusion of art within public and private developments. To learn more about the inclusion and procession of public art proposals, please visit Chapter 10 of the Urban Design Guidelines or the Public Art Program document.
