Care Call Program - On Monday, June 4, Seniors' Outreach began a Daily Care Call program. Social Workers developed this program out of requests by several seniors in the community who will benefit from daily contact. The purpose of the program is to provide daily verbal support and connection with those who are in need. However, any type of problem solving, guidance, or therapy is beyond the scope of the Care Call program. Seniors' Outreach volunteers will be trained to provide the interactive phone calls. Some participants may just want a quick daily assessment call, while others may want to spend a few minutes visiting. Seniors who are interested in enrolling in the Care Call program should call 960-2478 and ask to speak to the Social Worker of the Day.

Golf Tournament – The Huntington Beach Council on Aging will host its annual golf fundraiser on Friday, June 22, at Meadowlark Golf Course. Golfers of all ages are invited to play for an entry fee of $100, which includes green fees, cart, BBQ lunch, and dinner buffet. The shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. Please call the Huntington Beach Seniors Outreach Center at 536-9387 to register.

Infrastructure Map Scanning - The Public Works Department Engineering Division has been working in conjunction with Information Services to develop a scanning protocol for map and record drawing. Eventually, the program will be integrated into the SIRE system that has been implemented in the City Clerk’s Office. In preparation, staff has begun the process of scanning, verifying, and filing drawings. Over 100,000 separate maps are on file in Public Works. These maps include new tracts, city facilities, original infrastructure, and all improvements to the plans. Each drawing will go through a scanning and verifications process. Once the SIRE program is operational, staff and engineers can reference drawings from the field. This information will be valuable in daily use and critical in an emergency. The program will also assist with the permit and development processing aspects of engineering. A working system is expected by the end of 2007.
