Zumba Gold: Ditch the workout—join the party! The Michael E. Rodgers Seniors Center is offering Zumba Gold, a new class offered on Saturday mornings in August from 9:00 - 9:50 a.m. It’s different, fun, and effective. Designed for adults of all ages and active seniors, these easy dance steps will improve balance, strength, and aerobic fitness. You will have a joyful workout that benefits both body and mind. Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system. This five-week class is only $25, and you can register through the Sands Bulletin. Huck Finn Fishing Derby
The Huck Finn Fishing Derby will be held on the pier this Saturday, August 2, from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon. This event is free for children up to the age of 15. Registration will be held from 8 - 9 a.m. on the pier. Many sponsors have donated great prizes. Awards will be given for the top three largest fish in each category, for overall winners, and best dressed Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher. Registration forms may be obtained at the Community Centers or on the pier at the event. Additional information can be obtained by calling the Community Services Department at 536-5486 or by listening to WFB AM 1540 on Thursday night from 8 - 10 p.m.
Registration for the fall 2008 Adult Softball League is now underway. The registration deadline is August 7. Senior leagues are offered on Sundays; Men’s leagues are offered on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; and Coed leagues are offered on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The leagues will start play on August 18 and will conclude in October or November. Surf City Nights
The downtown street fair will have a free shuttle service starting on 7/29 and running through August using the OC Cruiser Woody Bus. The Shuttle is available each Tuesday, from 5 to 9 p.m., in 15-minute intervals. Pick-up service will begin at Huntington Beach City Hall, 2000 Main Street, in the north parking lot on the corner of Main Street and Yorktown Avenue. OC Cruiser will drop you off on Lake Street adjacent to the Main Promenade Parking Structure in the heart of the downtown to enjoy festivities. The last pick-up downtown and back to City Hall will be at 8:45 p.m.
