Friday Night Blues at the HBAC Presents the Amazing Sounds of Bernie Pearl
The Huntington Beach Art Center (HBAC) presents the raw and compelling sounds of Bernie Pearl and his band on July 18, 7:30 – 10:00 p.m., as part of the HBAC’s Friday Night Blues series. In solo and band accompanied performances, Pearl will play selections from his recently released double-disc CD, Old School Blues, featuring acoustic and electric songs. Pearl has played the blues scene in Southern California for 50 years, gaining a strong reputation and following for his upbeat, yet intricate, and note-intensive picking style that produces the illusionary sound of two guitars. Outside of solo performances, Pearl is accompanied by his band of 20 years, the Bernie Pearl Blues Band. General admission tickets for Bernie Pearl at the Huntington Beach Art Center on July 18 are $25; HBAC members $20, and prepaid reservations are required for guaranteed seating. Please call 374-1650 for reservations and ticket information. The HBAC is located at 538 Main in Huntington Beach. A sample of Bernie Pearl’s music can be heard at www.BerniePearl.com.

Public Comment Period for The Ripcurl Draft EIR Opens July 8
The draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for The Ripcurl will be available for public review and comment for 45 days, commencing Tuesday, July 8, and ending Thursday, August 21. The Ripcurl Project involves the construction of a six-story, mixed-use residential and commercial development (440 residential units and 10,000 square feet of retail uses) on a 3.8-acre site at the southeast corner of Gothard Street and Center Avenue. The project consists of four levels of housing over three levels of parking. The retail component would be on the ground level adjacent to two levels of above-grade parking. Outdoor amenities include a pool and spa area, fire pit, and movie projection area. Indoor amenities include a fitness center, business center, conference room, and clubhouse. The project application includes a General Plan Amendment, Zoning Map Amendment, and Zoning Text Amendment to allow the project on the proposed site and establish Transit Center District zoning and development standards. The project site is currently zoned and has a General Plan land use designation of Commercial General, which does not allow mixed use development. The applicant proposes the Amendments to include the Transit Center District in the Zoning Code and proposes a new zoning and General Plan designation of Mixed Use – Transit Center. The project entitlements also include a Conditional Use Permit and Tentative Tract Map. A copy of the EIR is available at City Hall, Central Library, and on the Planning Department website at http://www.huntingtonbeachca.gov/CityDepartments/planning/major/. A public meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 23, beginning at 6 p.m., in room C/D of the Central Library, 7111 Talbert Avenue.
