Code of Ethics

October 4, 1993, the City of Huntington Beach adopted a Code of Ethics policy establishing a standard of conduct or all elected officials, officers, employees, and members of advisory boards, commissions and committees. While the policy has been modified since that time, its core points addressing responsibility, fairness, respect and honesty, remain intact. While the City formally acknowledges this standard of conduct on an annual basis, it also provides and requires all elected or appointed officials, City employees, and members of its boards, commissions, committees, and task forces to participate in ethics training "in general ethics principles and ethics laws relevant to his or her public service," every two years to comply with guidelines brought forth by Assembly Bill 1234 (Salinas) - Compensation and Ethics.

Resolution No. 2016-73, Code of Ethics, adopted by the City Council on November 21, 2016, amended and reaffirmed the City's standard of conduct for elected officials, officers, employees, and members of advisory boards, commissions and committees.

January 16, 2024 Minute Order, adopted by City Council, amending the City's Code of Ethics.

Resolution No. 2018-58, adopted by the City Council on October 15, 2018, amended the City's Conflict of Interest Code aligned with the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Resolution No. 2023-01, adopted by the City Council on January 17, 2023, amended the City's Conflict of Interest Code aligned with the Fair Political Practices Commission.
