Household Hazardous Waste Fact Sheet 2018
The Public Works Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) program responds to incidents in the city involving the discharge of hazardous substances on or near the public right-of-way or other public property. Hazardous materials include such substances as paint, plaster and building materials; motor oil and other automotive fluids; pool chemicals and diatomaceous earth. The HAZMAT team provides emergency clean-up response to keep hazardous substances out of our streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains and, ultimately, our ocean. The HAZMAT crew works closely with Fire Department personnel to achieve a coordinated effort on hazardous material incident response.
