Alarm Office

The City of Huntington Beach requires a permit for burglar alarm systems. The fee is $41.00 and must be renewed annually. Additionally, there are fines for excessive false alarms. Below are portions of the ordinance that may apply to you:

(a) 5.56.040 Permit required.

Alarm system. No person shall install or use an alarm system without first applying for and receiving an alarm permit

(a) 5.56.100 False alarm - prevention payment.

When alarms are received by the Police Department which show a failure to comply with the requirements of this chapter, the Chief of Police may demand that the owner or lessee disconnect the alarm system until it is made to comply with such requirements.

(b) The owner or lessee of any alarm system which has caused any signal, message, or alarm to be transmitted to the Police Department and which is proved to be a false alarm, shall pay a false alarm prevention fee, established by resolution of the City Council, as follows:

(1) For false alarms in excess of two (2) received in a twelve (12) month period, the owner or lessee shall be assessed a fee for each such alarm and the fee shall be increased for each subsequent alarm received in a twelve (12) month period.

NOTE: ANY false alarm indicating Robbery/Holdup/Panic at a commercial establishment is assessed a $130.00 fine until the 4th false alarm. It will then be assessed at the standard burglar alarm fine schedule stated above

1st and 2nd False Alarm in any 12-month period No Charge
3rd False Alarm in any 12-month period $130.00
4th False Alarm in any 12-month period $150.00
5th False Alarm in any 12-month period $200.00
6th False alarm in any 12-month period $300.00
7th False Alarm in any 12-month period $400.00
8th False Alarm in any 12-month period $500.00 plus non-response status

After completing the form, mail the form with your check in the amount of $41.00 payable to
"The City of Huntington Beach" to:

Important: Police Department will not dispatch until permit application is received and processed. It is also your responsibility to notify your alarm company of your Huntington Beach Police Department alarm permit number when you obtain it.
