Important Changes Coming to Your Power Services in 2024

In May 2023, the Huntington Beach City Council voted to withdraw from the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) and return to Southern California Edison (SCE). This transition back to SCE is expected to be complete by July 2024. To ensure our community is informed of these changes, here are some FAQ’s to assist with clarification:

What can customers expect leading up to their transition from OCPA to SCE?

No action is required for this transition. Customers were sent an initial notice from OCPA at the beginning of 2024 and another 60-day notice preceding transition. For those who are Net Energy Metering (NEM) customers, transition of services took place in April and all other customers will transition in June.

When will OCPA discontinue the enrollment of new move-in accounts?

New move-ins no longer default to OCPA service.

When will the switch from OCPA's 100% Renewable tier to its Basic Choice tier take effect?

Starting in January 2024, customers enrolled in the 100% Renewable Choice Plan were moved to the Basic Choice Plan on their regular meter read date.

How will this impact my current bill?
Customers should continue to pay bills as normal. Your bill has always been and will continue to be processed by SCE. The City of Huntington Beach is working closely with the OCPA and SCE to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for all residents and businesses.
