Operations / Emergency Response

fdforsterEmergency Response DivisionLed by the Deputy Chief of Operations and supported by the Division Chief of Operations and the Emergency Management Administrator, this division provides an all-hazard response to fire, medical, technical rescue, hazardous materials, and other emergencies by a professionally trained and well-equipped workforce housed at eight fire stations and consisting of:


  • 131 Safety Personnel who cross-staff other specialities
  • Eight Paramedic Engine Companies
  • Two Truck Companies
  • One Battalion Chief

  • Five 24-hour Ambulances
  • Three Peak-Load Ambulances

  • Training Officer provides recurrent training for all firefighters

Fire Operations Division Personnel:
  • Total safety personnel: 131
  • Number of fire suppression personnel on-duty each day: 41
  • Number of ambulance personnel on-duty each day: 10
Response Time Standards:The Growth Management Element of the City General Plan specifies the following times for fire/rescue/emergency medical response arrival times:

  • The first engine company within five minutes 80 percent of the time.
  • The first ladder company within ten minutes 90 percent of the time and, in all cases, within fifteen minutes.
  • The first paramedic resource within five minutes 80 percent of the time and, in all cases, within ten minutes.
