Fire Hydrant Meter Use
NOTICE TO: ALL CONTRACTORS working in the Huntington Beach or Sunset Beach water service area.

ALL WATER USED SHALL BE METERED.  Contractor must have a valid Fire Hydrant Use Permit on site.

Billing and PenaltiesCharges:

Initial Fee = $1028 ($849 deposit + $144 Meter Set Up Fee for Set/Reset/Move + $35 Application Fee)

$70 per month basic charge

Usage = $4.8068 per hundred cubic feet (748 gallons)

5% Utility User Tax

$849 Deposit - The city will reimburse applicant remaining deposit balance after outstanding fees paid in full.

Meters are read once per month. Accounts must be paid by the Due Date on the bill or late fees will be assessed.

Past Due Accounts:

Meter may be removed if account is delinquent, requiring a $144.00 reset fee. All outstanding fees must be paid prior to meter being reinstalled. A late charge of $10 per month will be accrued on the unpaid balance.

Tampering:

Meters found in a location other than as set by the Utilities Division will be charged a penalty of $144 plus labor costs and removed from the site.

Damages:

All damages or losses to hydrant, eddy valve or meter will be billed to the permittee plus a $144 meter reset fee.

PIPE WRENCHES, VICE GRIPS, CHANNEL LOCKS, OR SIMILAR TOOLS SHALL NOT BE USED TO OPERATE HYDRANT STEM VALVES.

Tools Required: A Spanner or hydrant wrench is the only tool acceptable for use on hydrant stem valves.
