City Manager Fred Wilson announced the appointment of David Segura as Huntington Beach’s new Fire Chief. He will assume his duties on Monday, April 4, leading a department that supports eight fire stations, 198 positions and an annual operating budget of $45.6 million.
"I firmly believe David is well qualified for this position and the men and women of the fire department will be well-served with him as the new Chief,” said Wilson. "David brings with him a good mix of strategic planning, community engagement and organizational development.”
A 32-year veteran within the fire service and a Huntington Beach resident, Segura brings a wealth of experience having served the past 29 years in the City of Long Beach as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Captain, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief.
"I am excited and honored to be joining the Huntington Beach Fire Department as its Chief,” said Segura. “I am looking forward to meeting the men and women of the Department, getting to know the community and improving upon what is already an established Department,” he said.
Contributing to Segura’s strong leadership and organizational management style is a broad educational background. Segura holds an Associate’s Degree from Long Beach City College, a Bachelors Degree from California State University Long Beach and is working to complete his Masters Degree in Public Administration from CSULB.
He has resided in the City for the past 16 years with his wife, Cathy. He is the proud father of four sons - Justin, Christopher, Michael and Stephen, and one grandson - Aiden. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, as well as travelling and wakeboarding on Lake Havasu. Recently, he and his wife have successfully embraced the arena of competitive dog competitions, particularly dock jumping and flyball racing with their two dogs, Ivy and Ollie.
Segura’s selection comes after a national search to replace Chief Patrick McIntosh who retired in fall 2015.
