HBPL Literacy's Virtual 5K: June 19 - 27!
posted on 06/12/2021.

Literacy Volunteers—HBPL is having our first virtual 5K!! This year, Walk, Run, READ! will be taking place virtually over the course of a week, as we honor the social distancing restrictions. Shake off your 2020 sweats, grab a few friends, family, pets, and get outside. Walk, run, skate, cycle, stroll—choose your fun to enjoy the sunshine while supporting a worthwhile cause. Not feeling the walk? The “READ” is for you! That works, too!

Why support Literacy Volunteers? With staff and tutoring at Central & Oak View branch, tutors help other adults develop the necessary skills to improve their lives and their community. Volunteers and adult learners come from diverse backgrounds in nationality, education, and life experiences. With your support and contribution, learners are able to: improve employment opportunities, help their children with their homework, earn a high school diploma, attain US citizenship, manage their healthcare, and so much more!

For more information about Literacy Volunteers or to register, go to today. Adults are $25; kids are $5 for ages 10 and under. Teams are encouraged—even if everyone doesn’t walk together, or live in the area! There will be individual and team awards for people and pets alike. Best costumes! Most distance covered! Books/pages read! More!

Questions? Call the literacy office at Central, 714.375.5102. By participating in our virtual event, you are making a lasting impact on the lives of others. We cannot thank you enough.

We look forward to seeing you outside!
