HB Attempts to Set a 3rd Guinness World Record with “Largest Paddle Out”
--The “Surfing Circle of Honor” celebrates the debut of surfing in the 2020 Summer Games, International Surfing Day, and the Official First Day of Summer
--All in Support of the HB International Surfing Museum
“Surfing Circle of Honor, Celebrating Surfing in the Summer Games” intends to attempt to set another HB Guinness World Record for the “Largest Recorded Paddle Out in the World.” More than 500+ surfers will parade down Main Street in HB, then head out north side of the iconic Huntington Beach Pier to form a Surfing Circle of Honor – a circle of solidarity – that is two football fields in length on June 20, to honor International Surfing Day.

Surfing Circle of Honor --Tuesday, June 20
8:30am  Blessing by Pastor Sumo, Father Christian Mondor and Duke Aipa

8:35am  Parade down Main Street in HB (starting at Main/Walnut to PCH/north side of Pier) Including all 500 surfers, Huntington High School Marching Band, elected officials, police and fire

9:30 -11am  Paddle Out at 9:30am on North Side of HB Pier 
    --Teams will be in five groups of 100 and sorted by color (blue, black, red, green and yellow)
    --500 pool noodles that are strung together will be thrown off end of pier to HB Marine Safety officers that will hand off to the surfers to help form the circle
    --Surfers will form circle and have to hold each other’s hands on top of pool noodle for one minute.

11-11:45am  Grom/Under 21 Pay-It-Forward Lei Ceremony with blessing on the beach honoring the next generation of surfers. Older surfers will form a circle around these future Summer Game stars

--11:45-noon Surfing Circle of Honor Team receives Official Guinness World Record.
NOTE: Time may fluctuate pending Mother Nature

Party at the Paséa – Tuesday, June 20: The Surfing Circle of Honor Celebration at the beautiful oceanfront Paséa Hotel from 3 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $60 and available at:  Tickets are 100% tax deductible

Pro Surfer Brett Simpson and other legendary watermen and waterwomen ages eight to 80 years young will participate in the event – and maybe a few well known celebrities!   Team captains include surf legends, professional surfers, and locals:  Blue Team:  surfing legend Bud Llamas and Don Ramsey;  Black Team: Hawaiian royalty Duke Aipa and surf legend, Surf Emcee Rockin’ Fig Fignetti; Red Team:  World Champion Jericho Poppler and legend Chuy Madrid; Yellow Team:  Huntington Beach High School NSSA Surf Champions Coach Andy Verdone and assistant coach Brett Barnes; Green Team:  Hawaiian legend and Pastor Sumo Sato, and longtime board of director for the International Surfing Museum, Paul Taylor, and local surfer George Lambert, Mayor Delgleize, and Executive Director of the International Surfing Museum, Diana Dehm.

International Surfing Museum, Huntington Beach, is a 501c3 non-profit, whose mission is to preserve the history, culture, and future of surfing through strong community bonds in Surf City USA and around the world.  We want to create a bright future for our next generation “Groms,” with focus on our healthy surfing playgrounds, and highlight our iconic legends & pros while supporting our local businesses.
