The City will hold a special City Council transition meeting on Monday,
December 12 at 6 p.m. This Special Meeting is due to several factors regarding the 2016 General Election: the election occurred four plus days later than other recent elections; a change in State law added three extra days for the Registrar of Voters to certify an election; other changes in State law allowed mail in ballots to be received up three days after the election and for voters to have eight days to correct an unsigned ballot envelope; and, finally, a near record voter turnout. Accordingly, the County Registrar of Voters may not certify the election until December 7, therefore precluding any City Council transition ceremony on December 5.
Due to two items being continued from the November 21 City Council meeting, we will still hold a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, December 5 to conduct limited City business. The agenda for that meeting will be posted on or before December 1, 2016 on the City’s website.
The regularly scheduled City Council meeting for December 19 will also be held as normal. The agenda for that meeting will be posted on or before December 15.
Due to the holidays and limited business, the City Council meeting normally held on January 3, 2017 (the first Tuesday due to observance of holiday on Monday) will be canceled. The City Council will next meet on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 (the third Tuesday due to observance of Martin Luther King holiday).
