Trash Collection Information

The City of Huntington Beach has a long term, exclusive franchise agreement with Rainbow Environmental Services for all residential and commercial trash collection services including all recycling and green waste composting. Rainbow was acquired by Republic Services in 2012 and has recently transitioned all of their customer service to Republic Services’ regional call centers.

Residential:

The city bills monthly for residential trash service on the municipal services statement with water and sewer charges. Rainbow/Republic provides each residence with three color-coded carts, one each for trash, recyclable materials, and yard waste. Residents are required to sort waste and recyclables into the appropriate cart. For questions regarding trash charges, to start or stop trash service, or to report issues with residential trash service, contact Public Works Trash and Recycling at (714) 375-5010. If your collection was missed, please call Rainbow/Republic Services directly at (714) 847-3581 within 24 hours of the missed collection to get your container emptied.

Commercial:

Commercial bin service is a direct arrangement between customer and Rainbow/Republic, and is billed and collected directly by Republic Services. All multi-family buildings with 5 or more dwelling units and all businesses are required to contract with Rainbow/Republic for at least a basic level of commercial trash service (HBMC 8.21.160). Recyclables are sorted from the commercial waste at Rainbow/Republic's Material Recovery Facility. There are additional commercial recycling services available from Rainbow/Republic.

For more information about this process, please contact Rainbow/Republic directly at 714-847-3581 or submit a request via the Republic Services website at https://www.republicservices.com/rainbow-es
