Local Counseling & Training

The following agencies will be able to assist you with the more entreprenurial aspects of your business and will be able to find that special expertise that you are seeking.

Orange County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) -- The SBDC uses a variety of resources to counsel and train small business owners and managers in financial, marketing, production, organizational, engineering, technical and other management topics. Assistance is available to help develop feasibility studies, business plans, cash flow analysis and financial statements. Both one-on-one and group counseling sessions are offered at no cost to the small business. Seminars and special training are available for a nominal fee.

Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) -- SCORE is sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Orange County Chapter offers FREE one-on-one counseling, free in-depth problem solving, weekly discussion workshops and business seminars on a variety of subjects.

-- The U.S. Small Business Administration has a multitude of business resources available (800.827.5722). The SBA sponsor the Small Business Development Centers and the Senior Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) programs accross the nation. Two valuable links to the SBA are:

Small Business Development Center at Rancho Santiago College -- The Orange County Small Business Development Center (OCSBDC), an economic development program of the district, offers no cost business consulting services and low cost training seminars to small business owners and future entrepreneurs throughout Orange County. The SBDC is partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency and the California Community College Chancellor's Office and is hosted locally by Rancho Santiago Community College District.

Orange County Business Council -- The OCBC provides proactive advocacy for regional economic development throughout the county. The OCBC is an active partner of the Film Commission and Tourism Council.

California Manufacturing Technology Center -- The California Manufacturing Technology Center (CMTC) was established in 1992 to help promote the competitiveness of the state's smaller manufacturers (those with less than 500 employees). A nonprofit organization, CMTC provides manufacturing companies with business and technical consultants who provide service products in the areas of:

Regional Occupational Program (ROP) at Coastline Community College -- Coastline Regional Occupational Program, one or four ROP's in the Orange County and one of seventy-two in the State of California, plays an important role in training people to enter the world of work.

Education, business, and industry leaders work together through various advisory committees to assure meaningful internships, a verified labor market demand, and a high potential for student placement. Through a continuing partnership with local business and industry, career preparation programs are developed based on current job market demands.

The Industrial Technology Center at CTAC examines new electro-technology solutions that not only improve productivity, but also addresses air emission challenges. Export/Trade Assistance

Orange County International Trade Center

This resource serves as a clearing house for all available international business development and capital resources together in one location to offer Orange County's small and medium-sized businesses an array of trade development services to augment their global competitiveness.


Bureau of Industry and Security
On-the-spot guidance on export regulations. Handles questions regarding the Commerce Control List (CCL) and prepares Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) requests. Assists in preparing license applications and specific guidance on licensing requirements. Conducts a variety of seminars on export regulations and licensing procedures. Provides information and assistance on how to implement and develop export management systems tailored to specific needs. Conducts export licensing systems reviews of companies holding distribution license and provides a full range of counseling services for special request. Offers assistance with electronic licensing and assigns personal identification numbers (PIN). Maintains a full complement of Export Administration publications and licensing forms. Provides information on jurisdictions of other government agencies involved in export control matters.

Center for International Trade Development

Sponsored by Rancho Santiago Community College and the economic development program of the California Community Colleges, the Center offers fee-based seminars, one-on-one counseling, on-site consulting, technical and reference library, and degree programs in international business. Workshops anbd seminars cover all the technical and cultural aspects of conducting business in the global marketplace.

California State Trade and Commerce Agency

Information regarding the State of California's programs, including Film Industry, Industrial Economic Data, Local Economic Development, Small Business, Tourism and Trade.

Office of Export Development
The agency provides marketing assistance for small to medium sized California businesses by arranging group participation in premier trade shows overseas. This service cuts participation cost and allows the small exporter to be part of exclusive California displays. A list of trade show activities is available upon request. Automated Trade Lead Services (ATLS) - a database which provides companies with personalized direct trade referrals tailored to the exporter's product lines and markets of interest. There is no charge for this service.
