Huntington Beach Concert Band sponsors its annual Summer Series!
Celebrating their 44th anniversary this year, the Huntington Beach Concert Band will once again sponsor its Summer Series of 11 free Sunday concerts, in Huntington Beach Central Park.
“The concerts are organized and sponsored by the Huntington Beach Concert Band as a community service,” said Tom Ridley, who has conducted the band for 40 years.
All are invited to bring picnic dinners and beach chairs or blankets to enjoy the concerts.
Each concert features a different band, with music styles ranging from swing to popular marches, show tunes, Dixieland, Latin Jazz, Salsa, and Big Band Music!
This free concert series, a Huntington Beach tradition for years and years, continues “thanks to the generous financial support from the community at last year’s concerts, and donations throughout the year,” said Linda D. Couey, the band’s General Manager.
The Huntington Beach Concert Band will kick off the series June 25th with “Patriotic Pastiche.” The 75-piece brass, woodwind and percussion ensemble will perform a variety of musical selections celebrating the United States of America.
On July 23rd, the Huntington Beach Concert Band returns with a concert of “Music from the Movies”, featuring favorite movie scores.
On August 20th, the Huntington Beach Concert Band presents “Shall We Dance?”, with professional dancers from the “Dance All You Can” studio.
On July 30th, August 6th, 20th, 27th, and September 3rd, the concerts will be preceded, at 4:15, by 30 minutes of free Latin and/or Swing dance lessons. Wear your dancing shoes!
One of the oldest and largest community bands in Orange County, the all-volunteer Huntington Beach Concert Band is composed of professional and amateur musicians from around the region. The band has performed at venues throughout Southern California, including the Richard M. Nixon Library, Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts, Temecula Music Festival and Verizon Amphitheater, where for the past 20 plus years, band members have joined the Pacific Symphony for the finale of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
