Fire Operations

The primary role of the Operations Division is to support the Fire Department mission statement of, “To reduce the loss of property and protect life from fire, medical, and environmental emergencies through a quality and timely response.”  To accomplish this, the Operations Division consists of:

  • 131 Safety Personnel
  • 24 Ambulance Operators/Fire Interns
  • Eight Fire Stations
  • Eight Paramedic Engine Companies
  • Three Reserve Paramedic Engine Companies
  • Two Truck Companies
  • One Reserve Truck Company
  • Four Fire Department Ambulances
  • Three Reserve Fire Department Ambulances
  • One Light Air Unit
  • One Fire Command Vehicle
  • One Emergency Decontamination Unit
  • One Hazardous Materials Response Unit
  • The Central Net Fire Training Center which serves the cities of Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach
  • A Fire Shop to support and repair all fire apparatus and staff vehicles
  • One Reserve Command Vehicles

Operations Division Personnel:

  • Total safety personnel: 131
  • Number of fire suppression personnel on-duty each day: 41
  • Number of ambulance personnel on-duty each day: 8

Response Time Standards:

The Growth Management Element of the City General Plan specifies the following times for fire/rescue/emergency medical response arrival times:

  • The first engine company within five minutes 80 percent of the time.
  • The first ladder company within ten minutes 90 percent of the time and, in all cases, within fifteen minutes.
  • The first paramedic resource within five minutes 80 percent of the time and, in all cases, within ten minutes.

This Division prides itself in maintaining the high customer service ethic that is characteristic of the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
