Matthew Harper
Council Member

Councilman Matthew Harper was elected by the people of Huntington Beach on November 2, 2010. As a representative of the City of Huntington Beach, Councilman Harper serves as a Director for the Southern California Association of Governments and also as Alternate Director to the Orange County Sanitation District.

Prior to his service on the Huntington Beach City Council, Matthew Harper was a successful candidate to three terms to the Board of Trustees for the Huntington Beach Union High School District starting in 1998. The HBUHSD includes Huntington Beach, most of Westminster, most of Fountain Valley, Midway City, Sunset Beach and a portion of Garden Grove.

Councilman Matthew Harper is a graduate of Huntington Beach High School and has resided in Huntington Beach since arriving from neighboring Westminster at age 14. Councilman Harper earned his Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy & Management from the University of Southern California.

Councilman Harper has been licensed by the California Department of Real Estate since 2001 and currently holds a broker license. Harper works for the County of Orange and is former Deputy Chief of Staff to Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen.
