Gangs, Vice & Intel
"South Side" gang members pose for police while holding their hands in an "S" shape. Gang members use hand gestures in order to identify themselves with rival or allied gang members in a non-verbal manner.
Most gang members also identify themselves by distinctive tattoos identifying their gang or area. (photo removed)
This wall on Koledo avenue identifies this area as "South Sider" turf. Translated as S.S.H.B. by gang member "Ass Killer".
Rival gang members often challenge other gang members by invading the other's "turf". This is signified in this photo by the black "X-ing" out of the "South Side HB" gang logo. The rival gang member also identified himself as a member of the "Westminster Boyz" in the lower right corner.
