Renewing Items

Books may be renewed in 3 ways:

  1. On the Internet, through the online catalog.
  2. By telephone, through the automated number: (714) 374-1680
  3. In person at any HBPL library location

Renewing by Internet

  1. Log in with your barcode number, 14 digits, no spaces (normally begins with 2111900xxxxxxx)
  2. Enter your PIN#, which is the last four numbers of your phone number when you registered for your library card
  3. Click on the Checked Out link
  4. Check the box to the left of title of the item(s) to be renewed
  5. Click the Renew button
  6. A new due date will display if the item(s) has been renewed correctly. Watch Watch Video how-to video

Renewing by Telephone

  1. Call (714) 374-1680
  2. Press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish
  3. Press 5 to renew items
  4. Enter your library card number and then press the pound # key
  5. Press 1 to renew items individually or press 2 to renew all of your current items

Renewal Rules and Restrictions

  • Books (including encyclopedias and magazines) may be renewed only once (1 time) before the due date.
  • Renewing extends the loan period for an additional 3 weeks starting from the date the item is renewed.
  • Materials cannot be renewed if another patron has placed a hold reserve request on that title.
  • Media (Videos, DVDs, Music CDs, Downloadable Audiobooks, and Books on Tape or CD) cannot be renewed.
  • Overdue items cannot be renewed.
  • Do not wait until the due date to attempt renewals. The exact cutoff time for renewal is dependent upon the time the item was checked out. No grace period is given for unsuccessful renewals attempted on or after the due date.
