2008 California Building Energy Efficiency Standards

The City of Huntington Beach requires all Residential and Commercial construction projects to comply with the current California Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24, part 6) in effect.

THE NEW 2008 CALIFORNIA ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS WENT INTO EFFECT JANUARY 1, 2010

The new 2008 Standards supersede the 2005 Standards. Projects that apply for a building permit on or after this date must comply with the 2008 Standards.

Please note that there are many new requirements for both residential and non-residential projects. The California Energy Commission has all the current compliance forms, complete standards and manuals available online at: http://www.energy.ca.gov/title24/2008standards/

Most major residential and non-residential projects will require energy compliance to be documented by a Title 24 Energy report prepared by certified energy professionals. The energy compliance analysis is performed by using privately developed software approved by the Energy Commission.

Minor residential projects may be able to provide energy compliance using the prescriptive requirement (such as Package D). Energy compliance forms shall be required to be completed by the homeowner or designer and shall be submitted with the project documents.
